The Great Chain & research

The first loop: grow, research, climb.

Everything in GENESIS begins with Matter. It flows in every second at a rate determined by your current form, your research, and every permanent blessing earned in past worlds. Matter serves two purposes at once: it accumulates as mass, which determines your world's physical size, and it fills a spendable pool that you invest in research. Spending Matter never shrinks your world—the mote keeps everything it has accumulated.

When your mass reaches the next threshold, your world evolves into a new form. There are 34 forms in total, from dust mote to pebble, moon, living world, sun, and eventually into shapes astronomy has no names for. Each new form multiplies Matter production by ×2.2, and every threshold is farther away than the last. The vast distances between the deepest forms are where the true progression of the game unfolds.

Research

Every form unlocks two research lines, each with twelve levels. The first is steady and inexpensive, granting +4% production per level. The second costs more but packs a bigger punch, providing +5% production per level. Their total cost is deliberately tied to the size of the climb ahead, ensuring research always outlasts the gap. If growth feels slow, there's probably a level you haven't bought yet. The pace bar beneath your world reflects this: when it reads Straining, research is the way forward.

Wonders

Some forms hide a ★ Wonder—a single, expensive purchase that costs about 2.5× the entire climb to the next form and multiplies all production: ×2 for the first, ×3 for the second, ×4 for the third, ×5 for the fourth, and so on. Wonders are the biggest single investments in the game, and the auto-forge will happily save up for them.

Keystones

Every fourth form, beginning with the eighth, unlocks a Keystone: a one-time research purchase costing 0.8× the climb to the next form. Each Keystone grants a unique bonus. Seedheart enriches every seed by +15%. The Archivist's Sigil reduces all research costs by 10%. The Gatherer's Idol adds a full point of peak momentum. The Synergy Lattice grants +0.2% production for every research level you own, growing stronger as you do. The Skywatcher's Eye speeds up the sky by 30%. The Genesis Prism increases seed enrichment by another 30%, and the World Anvil, at the top of the Chain, simply triples everything. Like all research, Keystones reset when you seed—they are gifts to this world.

Momentum & the gather

Holding the Gather builds momentum toward a peak production bonus: +150% at base, increased further by momentum research, kinetic-hearted worlds, and the Gatherer's Idol. Momentum fades when you let go—unless the Sun's Tireless Grasp preserves it forever, making it the single upgrade that changes how the game feels more than any other.
